Starting a Project From a Template

Overview
You don't have to build every project from scratch. Sapience has project templates — ready-made project structures you can clone into your own workspace and start using immediately. Global templates are visible to every user, so a well-designed template built by someone in your organization is available to you too.
Where to Find Templates
There are two places templates show up:
- The New Project wizard — when you create a project, a template dropdown lets you start from one instead of a blank project.
- Projects → Templates filter — browse the available templates directly.
Each template card shows a TEMPLATE badge and its owner, so you can tell templates apart from your active projects.
How to Use a Template
- Start a New Project.
- In the wizard, open the template dropdown and choose the template you want.
- Finish creating the project.
Sapience clones the template into your workspace — the copy is yours: you own it, it's a normal project (not a template), and you can edit it freely.
What Happens Behind the Scenes
- When you create from a template, Sapience copies the whole template — its structure and contents — into a new project.
- The copy becomes yours. Ownership is rewritten to you, and it's created as a regular project (not a template), so editing it never touches the original.
- The original template stays read-only and owned by its author, ready for the next person to clone.
Good to Know
- Templates are visible to everyone. A global template appears in every user's New Project wizard and Templates filter.
- Your copy is independent. Changes you make to your new project never affect the template or anyone else's copy.
- The original is protected. You can clone a template, but you can't alter the shared original.
