Tasks & Goals

The core of any Project.

Learn About Goals & Tasks in a Project

💡

Goals & Tasks are different to other Sapience objects, in that they can only be created inside a Project.

You should probably read this:

Goals

Goals: a group of tasks. Best configured with a timeline for the Goal to be completed, with its own success criteria. A Goal has its own meta-data like status, description, and priority, but is also a container for a series of related tasks. Goals show up in the default task list like this:

Here we see a Goal, with several nested Tasks beneath it, that together make up the goal and drive the progress bar.

Tasks

Tasks: you know what these are 🙂.  Key innovations that Sapience brings is that any Task can be linked to other resources like a Note or a File, are automatically given to the Project Agent when you chat with it, and you can create them using AI directly.

💡

Task prioritization: it’s deliberate that you can’t manually set Task priority. You do it by setting the Urgency and the Importance of a task, as well as the due date or ETA. We use the Eisenhower management method here - learn more about that below.

You can add files to a Project, and these are automatically shared with the Project Team, and are also made available to the Project Agent whenever you spin up a Project Agent Chat. Note that you ahve to uplaod files into the Sapience Files system prior to being able to add them to a project. You can also search, filter, and sort files that have already been added.

Task Views (List, Eisenhower, Kanban)

There are three different ways of viewing and managing your work on a Project.

  1. Listview: the default view, which shows you Goals & Tasks in an heirarchical format. Note that you don’t have to use Goals. You can have Tasks directly on the Project object.
  1. Eisenhower Matrix: lets you quickly see your work in Eisenhower’s four categories (do now; schedule; delegate; delete). For more, read the dedicated article here:
  1. Kanban Mode: if you prefer Kanban, that is support too. See the dedicated article here:
