Group Chats (Multiple Humans & Agents)
This is a killer feature many users overlook. Sapience is all about TEAMS.
Group Chat in a Project — Collaborate With Your Team
Last Updated: 2026.07.07
Overview
Most of the time you chat one-on-one with an agent. But a project is a shared space, and sometimes you want to talk to the people on it — not the AI. Group Chat lets you start a conversation with your teammates right inside a project, so the discussion lives alongside the work it's about.
Group Chat is available to everyone — no setup, no preview flag to switch on.
What Group Chat Is (and Isn't)
- It's tied to the project. The conversation sits in the project's context, next to the files, notes, and tasks it relates to.
- It's real-time. Messages appear for every participant as they're sent.
If you want the AI to answer, that's a normal project-agent chat instead — you choose between the two when you start a conversation (below).
How to Start a Group Chat
- Open a project and go to its Conversations.
- Click New Conversation.
- You'll be asked to choose:
- Chat with Project Agent — the usual AI conversation, or
- Group Chat with Team Members — a conversation with people.
- Choose Group Chat with Team Members.
- Pick who to include from the project's members. Need someone who isn't on the project yet? Use Add from Organization to expand the list to everyone in your org.
- Confirm, and your group chat opens — marked with a "Group Chat" badge so it's easy to tell apart from an agent chat.
Everyone you included can see the conversation and reply in real time.
What Happens Behind the Scenes
- The conversation is shared with everyone you added, so each participant sees it in their own project view.
- Because it's a real conversation object in the project, it persists — you can come back to it later like any other chat.
Good to Know
- The AI won't interrupt. Group chats are deliberately agent-free, so you can have a normal team discussion.
- Start from the project. Group Chat lives in a project's Conversations area — that's the entry point.
- Bring in the wider org. You're not limited to current project members; Add from Organization lets you pull in anyone in your organization.
Summary
Group Chat turns a project into a place your team can talk, not just a place your agents work. Start it from the project's New Conversation button, choose Group Chat with Team Members, pick your people, and you've got a real-time, AI-free conversation attached to the project it's about. It's live for every user today.
